CASE FILE 77-TMP-04
CLASSIFICATION: ROUTINE / NON-ACTIONABLE
SUBJECT: UNNAMED (REFERENCED HEREAFTER AS “THE SUBJECT”)
DISTRIBUTION: Office of Chronological Compliance; Bureau of Minor Prophecy; Records Retention, Annex C; the Subject (posthumously, pending address verification); all holders of Provisional License to Interpret the Minor Arcana
I. REFERENCE TO PRIOR FILINGS
This office acknowledges receipt of Filing 77-TMP-01 through 77-TMP-03, collectively concerning the Subject’s repeated and unauthorized anticipation of events which had not, at the time of anticipation, been scheduled. The present affidavit addresses the fourth and terminal instance, in which the Temperance card was drawn on a date reserved, per the Subject’s own prior paperwork, for an entirely different revelation.
It is noted for the record that the Subject had no right to a normal life. This was established in Filing 77-TMP-02, Section 4(b), and has not been appealed.
II. SUMMARY OF OBSERVED EVENTS
On or about the fourteenth of the month, the Subject was observed drawing a single card from a deck of seventy-eight. The card was Temperance, upright. The Subject was observed to interpret this as an indication that a period of moderation, patience, and slow reconciliation was to commence.
It did not commence.
The period of moderation, according to internal schedules not available to the Subject at the time of drawing, had been assigned to a previous quarter and had already elapsed without the Subject’s participation. The Subject had, in fact, spent that quarter in a state of agitation later described in Filing 77-TMP-03 as “unavoidable.”
III. THE MIX-UP OF DATES
The Temperance card had been routed to the Subject in error. It belonged to a different filer, in a different jurisdiction, whose circumstances warranted a gradual blending of opposing forces. The Subject’s own card — the one scheduled, approved, and stamped for the fourteenth — was the Five of Swords.
The Five of Swords was not delivered. It remained, per warehouse logs, in a sorting bin in a facility the Subject was never granted clearance to enter.
The Subject therefore prepared for reconciliation. The Subject was observed purchasing a modest quantity of tea. The Subject was observed drafting an apology to an individual identified only as “R.” The Subject was observed sleeping, on several consecutive nights, without incident.
IV. THE ARRIVAL OF THE FIVE OF SWORDS
The Five of Swords arrived on the twenty-second, eleven days late, without apology or tracking number.
The Subject was not observed to be surprised. The Subject was observed to be, in the language of the responding officer, “expecting it, in a way.”
It is the finding of this office that the Subject’s expectation was not prophetic. It was merely the accumulated residue of prior filings. The Subject had learned, through no fault of its own, that the paperwork always catches up.
V. STATEMENT OF INJURY
The following injuries are noted:
- Loss of one (1) friendship, designated “R.,” cause listed as “the subject should have known.”
- Loss of one (1) period of calm, scheduled for the fourteenth, forfeited.
- Loss of the belief, held briefly and without authorization, that things might be permitted to settle.
The Subject did not file a claim. The Subject was not aware that a claim was available. The Subject was, per standard procedure, not informed.
VI. FINDINGS
- The Temperance card was misdelivered. This is not disputed.
- The Subject acted in good faith upon the misdelivered card.
- The Subject’s good faith produced no measurable benefit and was, in retrospect, a liability.
- The Subject had no right to a normal life. This was known to the Subject. The Subject proceeded anyway.¹
VII. DISPOSITION
No corrective action is recommended. The sorting bin remains in use. The Five of Swords has been restocked and is available to other filers, some of whom will receive it on time and will not understand what it means.²
The Subject’s file is hereby closed. The Subject’s name has been redacted from this document in accordance with policy, though the Subject’s name was never entered into the system to begin with.
VIII. FOOTNOTES
¹ The Subject was informed of this in writing on three occasions. The Subject was observed reading each notice. The Subject was observed setting each notice down and continuing.
² It is the position of this office that the cards do not lie. It is also the position of this office that they are frequently misaddressed. The distinction is preserved for administrative purposes only and has no bearing on outcomes.
END OF FILING.
NEXT REVIEW: NOT SCHEDULED.
THE SUBJECT IS ADVISED TO DISREGARD ANY FURTHER CORRESPONDENCE, AS NONE WILL BE SENT.
