You came to me with your vision boards and your morning affirmations, your gratitude lists and your moon water. You said you were manifesting. You said you were calling in your desires, aligning your vibration, raising your frequency. You wanted me to confirm the magic. You wanted me to bless the game.

I will not.

Let’s be precise about what you were actually doing. You were not manifesting. You were negotiating with your own terror. You were building a beautiful, glittering cage out of intention and calling it freedom. You were performing a ritual of avoidance so elaborate, so aesthetically pleasing, that you mistook your own procrastination for spiritual progress.

You said you were manifesting love. What you were actually doing was refusing to send the text. You were re-reading his last message for the forty-seventh time, decoding the punctuation, the emoji, the pause between words, while your altar sat covered in rose quartz and your journal filled with “I am worthy of deep connection.” You were not calling in a partner. You were building a fortress of “not yet” so you never had to risk the humiliation of “no.” The universe was not conspiring to bring you your person. The universe was watching you run in place, sweating from the effort of going nowhere, and calling it a marathon.

You said you were manifesting abundance. What you were actually doing was refreshing your bank account and feeling a spike of adrenaline when the number didn’t move. You were buying another course on magnetic wealth, another book on the subconscious mind, another candle that smelled like “prosperity” while your invoices sat unpaid. You were not opening a channel to receive. You were stockpiling excuses. You were making “I’m not ready” into a spiritual practice. You were waiting for a sign, a lightning bolt, a divine tap on the shoulder to say “now,” when the sign was that you had a pulse and access to the internet. You had the information. You had the capacity. You had the fear. And you chose to call it patience.

You said you were manifesting your dream career. What you were actually doing was downloading a vision board app and spending three hours curating images of offices you’d never sit in, bylines you’d never have, stages you’d never stand on. You were not aligning with your purpose. You were building a fantasy so detailed it became a substitute for the terrifying act of sending your work into the world and watching it be rejected. You were not raising your vibration. You were polishing your wait. You were becoming an expert in the law of attraction while remaining a novice in the law of action. The universe rewards motion, not intention. It rewards the messy, humiliating first draft, not the perfect Pinterest board.

And here is the part you will not enjoy, so lean in. You know this. You have always known this. That is why you came to me. You wanted the shadow read because you sensed the rot beneath the ritual. You sensed that your manifestation practice was not a doorway—it was a locked door with a sign that said “spiritually occupied” so you wouldn’t have to face what was on the other side. What was on the other side was the possibility that you are not special. That the universe does not have a plan for you. That you are just a person with a body and a brain, and the only thing between you and what you want is the willingness to look foolish. And you would rather look enlightened than foolish. You would rather whisper “the universe is testing me” than admit “I am terrified of failing.”

So let me name what you were actually doing. You were hiding. You were using the language of the New Age to dress up your cowardice in silk robes. You were praying because praying is easier than asking. You were affirming because affirming is easier than asserting. You were meditating because meditating is easier than making the phone call. You were manifesting because manifesting is what you do when you cannot bear the weight of your own agency.

The shadow of your manifestation practice is not that you did it wrong. The shadow is that you did it instead. Instead of living. Instead of risking. Instead of being the one who asks, who sends, who shows up, who fails, who gets back up with a red face and a racing heart and does it again.

You do not need to align. You need to act. You do not need to raise your frequency. You need to lower your standards for what counts as acceptable discomfort. You do not need to manifest. You need to do the thing you are currently manifesting, and let the results be whatever they are.

You asked me what you were actually doing when you said you were manifesting. I will tell you.

You were buying time to stay small. And the universe was never going to save you from that. It was waiting for you to stop pretending, put down the crystal, and pick up the goddamn phone.
